Using a small computer — the heart of the brainLight Touch Synchro — both optical and acoustic signals are generated and then transmitted through the visualization glasses and headphones. The brain quickly adjusts to these frequencies and then naturally begins to produce its own frequencies that mirror the given impulses.
This is a phenomenon that, in the 1960s, brought fame to the American parapsychologist Robert Monroe. His theory of Frequency Followed Response shows, in very simple terms, that the human brain follows a longer acoustic or visual stimulus and then begins to oscillate in a pattern of electrical waves at exactly that same frequency.
Modern research into the effects of rhythmic light and sound began in the mid-1930s. Scientists discovered that brainwaves adjust to the rhythm of flickering light stimulation — a phenomenon known as entrainment. Directing a stroboscope at the eye at a frequency of 10 Hz shows that the subject's brainwaves adapt to that same frequency. This finding was confirmed through EEG recordings.
Looking back through human history, we can see that even in ancient times this technique was used to reach a trance-like state. It was achieved through rhythmic drumming, rattling, clapping, or chanting combined with flickering light (produced by bonfires, candles, torches, and similar sources). Think of the magic of flickering flames, sunlight dancing on the waves of the sea, the monotonous rhythm of a train ride, or the interplay of light and shadow as you drive down a tree-lined avenue. Mental images and ideas tend to appear quickly, almost like a film. Your mind seems to float. Exciting colors, shapes, or patterns form before your eyes.

Our mental potential is based on electricity. Each of the billions of brain cells in our brain discharges at a specific frequency. These electrical signals can be recorded using an electroencephalograph (EEG), much like a seismograph records movements in the earth. EEG does not measure the electrical signal of individual brain cells, but rather the combined electrical pattern of a network of millions of cells "firing" at the same time. These collective energy impulses are known as brainwaves.
Since the development of the first EEG in the 1920s, scientists have discovered that the brain produces five different types of brainwaves: gamma, beta, alpha, theta, and delta waves. For nearly the entire day, our brain operates almost exclusively in the beta wave rhythm. In stressful situations, this is considered overstimulation. The light and sound programs of the brainLight Touch Synchro are designed to guide the brain into an alpha, theta, delta, or low gamma state and to connect the two hemispheres of the brain. This is a fairly specific condition and does not mean that the entire brain produces a single dominant wave at the same frequency, around 10 Hz in the alpha range. You need to picture brainwaves as peaks and troughs. The degree of connectivity increases the "power" of the brain, and with it, the amplitude of the waves (when two waves meet, they create a larger wave).
Put simply, the deep relaxation program works as follows. Through rapidly flickering light and sound frequencies (beta), you are "carried" from a highly mentally active — and likely tense — state, through progressively slower frequencies, until you reach the alpha range. Your breathing calms down and becomes more even, and your muscles relax. Calm and balanced brainwaves increase concentration and prepare the mind for learning. Alpha waves are a key feature of both mental and physical relaxation, as well as of heightened sensitivity, memory, creativity, imagination, and intuition. Healing and self-regeneration, on the other hand, are best achieved in the delta state.
Gamma waves are the fastest brain waves. They include frequency range of 30 cycles per second (30 hertz, or Hz) to well over 100 Hz. Gamma waves are the fastest brainwaves. Because gamma waves are still poorly researched, the brainLight Touch Synchro only uses frequencies up to a maximum of 40 Hz — the range in which adequate studies have been conducted, since these frequencies were previously believed to be beta waves.

Beta waves have a frequency ranging from 14 to 30 Hz. When we are in a normal, awake state, focused on the outside world or dealing with specific problems, beta and low gamma waves (typically between 14 and 40 Hz) dominate the brain. Beta waves are associated with maintaining attention, alertness, concentration, and cognition, and in extreme states, with anxiety and suffering. Most people in Western societies have a brain dominated by beta waves.
When we close our eyes and become relaxed or less focused, our brainwaves slow down and we produce what are known as alpha waves, which fall within the range of 8 to 14 Hz. The longer we relax, the more dominant alpha waves become in the brain. They create a calm and comfortable feeling: the alpha state. This appears to be a largely neutral state for the brain. When people are healthy and unstressed, they produce a high level of this significant alpha activity. If it is lacking, this can be an early sign of anxiety, stress, or illness. Alpha waves also promote empathic neural function, integration between the right and left sides of the brain, and support the body's healing processes. In the alpha state, we are creative and optimally receptive to absorbing new information.
10 Hz Has a stabilizing and harmonizing effect on the entire body; supports responsiveness, as it stimulates an already relaxed yet highly alert state. 10 Hz eases pain for many people and supports the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that improves mood. If you're unsure which frequency to choose, we recommend starting at 10 Hz.
10.5 Hz Promotes integration and communication between body, mind, and spirit; stimulates cellular regeneration, supporting physical healing. A frequency of around 10.5 Hz matches the brainwave pattern of a person walking on hot coals without being burned.
12–14 Hz Using this frequency range is recommended for enhancing cognitive abilities.

When rest and relaxation turn into drowsiness, the brain switches to slower, stronger theta waves, which range from 4 to 8 Hz. This is a state between waking and sleep, often accompanied by vague, dream-like mental images that may be linked to vivid memories. Theta waves can be measured during deep meditation, for example during certain yoga exercises, autogenic training, or other relaxation techniques. Theta opens access to subconscious thought material, dreams, free association, hidden knowledge, and creative ideas. It's worth noting that the highest proportion of theta waves is measured in children up to around 10 years of age, even when they are not asleep. It seems that as people age, they lose some of this alertness and awareness.

7.83 Hz: According to German physicist and electrical engineer Winfried Otto Schumann (1888–1974), this frequency describes the natural electromagnetic resonance of the ionosphere. It is known as the Schumann resonance. Studies of healers and shamans indicate that their brainwave pattern shifts to this frequency during altered states of consciousness.
Once we fall asleep, delta waves dominate the human brain. They are even slower than theta waves, falling within a frequency range of 0.1 to 4 Hz. Delta activity is rarely experienced in the waking state. The mental states associated with delta waves include deep, dreamless sleep (non-REM sleep), trance, and deep hypnosis. When people are in the delta state, a large amount of healing growth hormone is released, and cell regeneration is stimulated.
